Studio Tour

Hexmark Records Recording Studio

Alongside the label and website launch, Hexmark Records presents their studio aka (‘The Lab’). In the future, we will be offering a stem mixing service, so watch this space.

The Lab has been a work in progress with investment pieces built over the last two decades. The might of the Focal SM9s replaced the Mackie HR824s a few years ago, which has enhanced the quality of sound, the attention to detail and the whole listening experience. By far, the best choice of a short-list which included Klein and Hummel O300s. Over time my mixes improved in clarity, punch and balance. I couldn’t recommend them enough.

As a producer, you never stop learning. And like a great man once said: “The more I learn, the more I realise how much I don't know.” Albert Einstein

Q&A The Rig.

  1. What’s your favourite bit of gear? Gotta be my Thermionic Culture Vulture. A valve base distortion unit to add odd harmonics allowing for that aggressive sound. When I bought that I made Snarl within a few months of tinker. Totally evil unit!! I bought the UAD version too just for kicks, lol. Love it.
  2. What’s the most useful bit of gear? Secret for now as its bespoke. I used it on every mix. More about that in another post. Nuff said!!
  3. Most fun? Akai MFC – I bought it back in the day when it was dirt cheap. I love the fact that it self oscillates at 12 o’clock on the resonance control.
  4. Whats on your wish list for 2018?
    • - 2x Modded Warm Audio EQP-WA – New transformer and new capacitors for that fuller pultechy sound.
    • - Kush Audio FATSO – for bus tape saturation. I’m currently using the UAD one for now but will switch when I make good on this list ☺.
    • - Avalon 747 just to run 2 bus mix though for sweetening our digital mixes.
